EXPRESSION OF CD 133 IN COLORECTAL POLYPS

Keywords: polyps, dysplasia, telomere damage, stem cells, CD 133

Abstract

The review provides information on colorectal polyps that can only be classified by histological studies. The risk of colorectal carcinogenesis can be reduced by polypectomy of the large intestine and careful dynamic observation of the disease. To reduce the likelihood of malignancy, polyps at an early stage of development can be detected and removed endoscopically. At present, the role of stem cells in the development of a number of diseases of the organs of the gastrointestinal tract is discussed. Studies of stem cells and their metabolism, identification of new surface markers enable to discover and determine a new direction of treatment of incurable diseases. Therefore, it is topical to study the importance of the prognostic significance of stem cells predisposing cancer development, as well as their frequency and prevalence in colorectal polyps. The use of the marker CD133 for immunohistochemical examination of colorectal polyps has a great diagnostic and tactical (choice of therapy) value.
